Cable Route Length Reconciliation Tool — Compare Planned and Field Quantities
Compare design estimates with field-measured and installed route lengths. See which routes have grown, where installed quantities differ from the plan, and how the total cable quantity has shifted.
Route reconciliation
Why route reconciliation matters
Cable quantity can move during a project. Drawings may show one route length, a field survey may reveal another, and the installed cut can differ again because of final routing and terminations.
Planned versus field variance
This comparison highlights how far the actual measured route has moved from the earlier estimate. That can support procurement and change-control discussions.
Field versus installed variance
The installed value provides a separate reference for checking the final quantity against the measured route.
Percentage variance
The calculator reports percentage change relative to the planned value. A positive result indicates more cable than planned; a negative result indicates less.
Example
If a planned route is 80 m and the field measurement is 86 m, the field variance is +6 m or +7.5%. That difference is much easier to act on when shown route by route.
Limitations
Reconciliation quality depends on consistent measurement boundaries and units. This tool does not decide whether a route change is justified or whether installed cable is acceptable.
Frequently asked questions
What if installed length is blank?
Enter zero when no installed quantity is available and interpret that value as an actual zero rather than a missing measurement.
Can variance be negative?
Yes. A negative variance means the compared quantity is below the planned value.
Should all routes use the same unit?
Yes. Convert the inputs to the same unit before reconciling them.
