Block vs Brick Quantity Cost Comparator
Compare two masonry choices on the same wall area using your actual unit dimensions, prices and waste assumptions. The result separates unit quantity from material cost so a low unit price does not hide a high unit count.

How brick-versus-block cost is calculated
First calculate units per square metre from the face-module area. Then apply the waste allowance and multiply by unit price. Any additional per-square-metre material cost is added separately.
Order units = area × units/m² × (1 + waste)
Material cost = order units × unit price + extra cost
Worked example
A 150 m² wall using a 225 × 75 mm brick module requires far more units than a 400 × 200 mm block module. The per-unit price therefore cannot be used alone to judge which system has lower material cost.
Material cost is not installed cost
Brick and block construction can differ in laying productivity, mortar or adhesive consumption, reinforcement, cutting, transport and finishing. Those costs should be modeled separately when the decision needs a full installed-cost comparison.
Why your actual prices matter
Local material prices vary by product, supplier, quantity and delivery conditions. Entering a current quotation or procurement assumption makes the comparison much more useful than relying on a generic online price.
Limitations
The comparator does not recommend a wall system or assess structural suitability. It compares only the entered material assumptions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is brick cheaper than block?
It depends on actual unit prices, quantity and project-specific costs.
Does the tool include waste?
Yes, through the entered allowance.
Does it include mortar?
No.
Can AAC blocks be compared?
Yes, when their face dimensions and price are entered.
Does lower material cost mean lower total project cost?
No.
