Antique Consignment Markdown and Payout Planner
A markdown plan helps a consignor and dealer agree in advance how an item’s price may change if it remains unsold. This planner applies the entered markdowns in sequence, never reduces an item below its minimum price, and shows the possible payout at every scheduled date.
Calculator
Enter your figures below. Results update from the assumptions you supply; check your agreement, fee schedule, and local requirements before making a decision.
How to use this tool
- List items one per line as: Item name | original price | minimum price.
- Enter the planned markdown events as: YYYY-MM-DD | markdown percentage. Each reduction applies to the previous scheduled price, not the original price.
- Enter dealer commission and fixed per-item deductions. Review the timeline by item and date; confirm whether the agreement allows each planned markdown.
Calculation method
New scheduled price = max(minimum price, previous price × (1 − markdown percentage)). Estimated payout = scheduled price × (1 − commission rate) − fixed deduction, floored at zero.
Worked example
An item listed at 500 with a 10% markdown becomes 450; a later 10% reduction becomes 405, rather than 400. The planner applies the specified minimum as a floor and recalculates the consignor payout at each step.
Important assumptions and limitations
- Markdown authority and timing should be agreed with the consignor before listing.
- The result assumes each markdown is applied sequentially to the current price. It is not a sales-demand forecast.
- A commission or deduction can make the payout lower than the price change suggests; verify settlement rules in the contract.
Frequently asked questions
Does a 10% markdown apply to the original price every time?
No. This planner compounds each markdown from the current scheduled price. A sequence of 10% and 10% reductions produces a total reduction of 19% before the price floor.
What is the minimum price field?
It is a floor below which the schedule will not reduce the item’s price. Set it according to the agreed consignment terms.
Does the planner tell me when an item will sell?
No. It estimates the financial effect of scheduled price changes; it does not predict buyer demand.
Are deductions charged at every stage?
The same fixed deduction is shown when estimating payout at each scheduled price. It is not added cumulatively across dates.
Can I use a schedule with no markdown events?
Yes. Enter at least one planned markdown date for a timeline; the starting price is also shown for comparison.
