Antique Layaway Payment and Deposit Calculator
Layaway can make a collectible accessible while allowing a dealer to reserve the item. This planner shows how the initial deposit and administrative fee affect the remaining balance, then dates the installments using the chosen frequency. It also estimates a cancellation refund from the amount already paid and a fee you enter.
Calculator
Enter your figures below. Results update from the assumptions you supply; check your agreement, fee schedule, and local requirements before making a decision.
How to use this tool
- Enter the item price, initial deposit, administration fee, installment count, and the first installment due date.
- Choose weekly, every two weeks, or monthly frequency. Monthly dates are clamped to the final valid day of the month when necessary.
- Review every due date and balance. Enter installments already paid and an agreed cancellation fee to see an illustrative refund if the agreement is cancelled now.
Calculation method
Amount financed by installments = item price + administrative fee − deposit. Regular installments are split evenly to cents and the last installment absorbs any rounding remainder. Estimated cancellation refund = deposit + installment payments made − cancellation fee, floored at zero.
Worked example
For a 600 item, 100 deposit, 10 fee, and five installments, the balance scheduled is 510, or 102 per installment. Always compare the schedule to the dealer’s signed layaway and cancellation policy.
Important assumptions and limitations
- The calculator does not create a legal layaway contract or determine whether a cancellation fee is lawful.
- Make sure the item price and deposit are agreed in writing, including when the item is considered reserved and when title or possession transfers.
- Cancellation estimates assume the entered installments-paid count refers to completed installments in this schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Does the deposit reduce the installment balance?
Yes. The deposit is subtracted from the item price plus the entered administration fee.
What happens to monthly dates near month-end?
The planner keeps the date within each target month. For example, a date near the 31st may be clamped to the last day of a shorter month.
Does the final installment differ?
It can differ by a few cents because the schedule is rounded to currency precision and the final payment reconciles the remaining balance.
Is the cancellation refund guaranteed?
No. It is an estimate based on the fee and paid amounts entered. The written agreement and applicable law control.
Should unpaid future installments count as paid in cancellation?
No. Only the deposit and the number of installments entered as already paid are included in the refund estimate.
