Layout Summary

Parameter Value Unit Meaning

How Coordinates Are Calculated

When Plate Centre is selected as the origin, the centre of the base plate is coordinate (0, 0). Bolt positions are placed symmetrically around this point.

X Bolt Position = ± Bolt Gauge X ÷ 2
Y Bolt Position = ± Bolt Gauge Y ÷ 2

For a corner-origin layout, the centre-origin coordinates are shifted so that the bottom-left plate corner becomes (0, 0).

X Corner Coordinate = X Centre Coordinate + Plate Length ÷ 2
Y Corner Coordinate = Y Centre Coordinate + Plate Width ÷ 2

Edge Distance Checks

The actual edge distance is calculated from each bolt centre to the corresponding plate edge. The tool compares the smallest edge distance against the minimum entered by the user.

Edge X = (Plate Length − Gauge X) ÷ 2
Edge Y = (Plate Width − Gauge Y) ÷ 2

Anchor Bolt Layout Notes

A four-bolt arrangement places one bolt at each corner of the rectangular bolt pattern. Six- and eight-bolt layouts add symmetrical intermediate bolt positions.

The bolt gauges represent centre-to-centre distances between opposing bolt lines. The entered plate dimensions determine the available edge distance around the pattern.

Bolt diameter is displayed for planning purposes and does not automatically determine hole diameter, washer size, embedment or anchor capacity.

Important Limitations

Final anchor positions, bolt diameter, embedment, edge distances, hole dimensions and foundation design must be checked by a qualified structural engineer using the actual loads and applicable design standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Anchor Bolt Layout Calculator generate?
It generates preliminary anchor bolt coordinates, gauges, edge distances and a visual base plate layout.

Can I use four, six or eight anchor bolts?
Yes. The calculator supports four-, six- and eight-bolt preliminary rectangular layouts.

Where is the coordinate origin?
You can choose the centre of the base plate or the bottom-left plate corner as the coordinate origin.

What is bolt gauge?
Bolt gauge is the centre-to-centre distance between opposing anchor bolt lines.

Does the calculator check minimum edge distance?
Yes. It calculates the actual edge distances and compares them with the entered minimum.

Can these coordinates be used directly for fabrication?
No. They are preliminary planning coordinates and must be checked against the complete structural connection and foundation design.
