Aggregate production planning

Aggregate Conveyor Throughput Calculator

Estimate conveyor material flow in cubic metres per hour and tonnes per hour from belt speed, loaded material area and bulk density, with operating utilization kept visible.

Conveyor inputs

The cross-sectional loading area should represent the actual aggregate profile carried by the belt, not simply the belt width multiplied by an arbitrary depth.
Enter belt speed, loading area and density.

Conveyor throughput formula

A simplified belt conveyor capacity estimate uses the belt speed and the material cross-sectional area carried by the moving belt. An operating factor then reduces the theoretical rate to reflect incomplete loading.

Ideal volumetric flow = speed × loaded area × 3,600
Effective flow = ideal flow × utilization
Mass flow = effective flow × bulk density

Worked example

At 2 m/s and 0.045 m² loading area, theoretical capacity is 324 m³/h. At 85% effective loading it becomes 275.4 m³/h. At 1.65 t/m³, that is about 454.41 t/h.

Why utilization matters

A belt may operate below its geometric maximum because feed is intermittent, the material profile changes, spillage occurs or the feed point does not continuously fill the belt.

Cross-sectional area is critical

Two conveyors with identical belt speeds can have very different throughput when their material loading profiles differ. Use manufacturer capacity data or measured loading geometry where available.

Production planning

Daily and period tonnage are based on entered operating hours and days. They are planning outputs rather than guaranteed production because downtime and maintenance are not separately modeled.

Limitations

This is a simplified capacity model. It does not verify belt, drive, idler, motor, structural or safety limits and should not be treated as equipment design certification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the result be shown in tonnes per hour?

Yes.

Why enter utilization?

To distinguish theoretical belt flow from a more realistic operating estimate.

Can I estimate daily production?

Yes, using operating hours.

Does density change conveyor throughput?

It changes mass flow in tonnes per hour, but not the volumetric flow.
