Wheel Clearance Simulator
Model the lateral position of a proposed wheel and tyre against suspension-side and fender-side clearance measurements you enter.
Simulate wheel and tyre clearance
How the clearance simulator works
This tool focuses on actual clearance rather than simply comparing wheel offsets. The wheel centerline is used to place the wheel edges, and the tyre's nominal width is then used as the tyre envelope for a simple lateral screening model.
Wheel inner edge = wheel width ÷ 2 + offset.
Wheel outer edge = wheel width ÷ 2 − offset.
Why tyre width is not treated as an exact physical envelope
Nominal tyre section width does not fully describe sidewall bulge, tread shape or how a tyre sits on a particular rim. The user can therefore provide a measured lateral adjustment instead of relying on an invented universal tyre-shape correction.
Movement allowance
A static measurement can look acceptable while suspension compression or steering movement changes available space. Enter a movement allowance based on actual measurements or professional assessment.
Do not confuse mathematical clearance with safe fitment
Brake components, suspension hardware, alignment changes, wheel bearing loads, fender movement and other vehicle-specific factors are outside this simplified model.
Best use
Use the simulator to narrow wheel choices before doing a physical test fit. For modified vehicles, a real clearance check remains the final verification step.
FAQs
Is tyre section width the same as actual width?
No. Actual dimensions can vary by tyre, rim and construction.
Why add a movement allowance?
Because the wheel and tyre do not remain in one static position under every driving condition.
Does this certify that a wheel will not rub?
No. It is a geometric screening simulator only.
