Tyre Tread Life Estimator
Estimate how much mileage may remain before your chosen tread-depth limit is reached using measured tread depth and your tyre's historical wear rate.
Estimate remaining tyre life
How the tread-life estimate works
The calculator uses the amount of tread consumed over the known mileage to estimate a historical wear rate. It then applies a user-defined future wear factor to account for the possibility that future driving conditions may not match the historical period.
Historical wear rate = (Starting tread − Current tread) ÷ Mileage driven.
Projected future wear rate = Historical wear rate × Future wear factor.
Remaining mileage = (Current tread − Selected limit) ÷ Projected future wear rate.
Why the replacement threshold is configurable
There is no single universal tread-depth number that applies to every jurisdiction, tyre, inspection regime and operating decision. Use the threshold appropriate to your manufacturer's guidance, local rules and professional inspection criteria.
Wear is not always linear
Alignment, inflation, rotation, road surface, temperature, load, driving style and tyre construction can change wear rate. A historical average is therefore an estimate, not a guaranteed forecast.
Uneven wear matters
A tyre with adequate average tread can still have important localized wear. If the wear pattern is severe or irregular, physical inspection should take priority over this numerical forecast.
Use all four tyres as appropriate
Different axle positions can wear at different rates. For replacement planning, measure each tyre rather than assuming one tread-life result represents the whole vehicle.
FAQs
Can this predict the exact replacement date?
No. It produces an estimate from historical wear and your assumptions.
Why use a future wear factor?
Future wear may differ from historical wear. The factor lets you explicitly model a faster or slower future rate.
What if the tyre has uneven wear?
Use the result cautiously and prioritize an inspection when wear is severe or localized.
