Estimate preliminary mezzanine steel quantities from floor area, including beams, joists, columns, bracing, decking, stairs, plates, waste and material cost.
| Component | Quantity | Total Length / Area | Allowance | Estimated Weight |
|---|
The floor length and width establish the preliminary mezzanine floor area. Main beams are then distributed across the floor according to the maximum beam spacing entered by the user.
The actual beam spacing is calculated after rounding the number of spaces upward. This keeps the estimated spacing at or below the entered maximum.
Joists are distributed across the floor according to the entered maximum joist spacing. The estimator calculates a practical preliminary quantity and multiplies the resulting total joist length by the entered section weight.
The joist length is based on the floor length in this preliminary model.
Columns are estimated from the floor dimensions and target column spacing. The calculator creates a preliminary grid by rounding the required number of spaces upward in both floor directions.
Column steel is then calculated from the estimated quantity, entered column height and section weight.
Decking is estimated from the floor area plus the entered decking allowance.
If stairs are enabled, the calculator estimates stair steel from the entered stair footprint and entered steel weight per square metre.
The stair result is a preliminary allowance only and does not represent a detailed stair fabrication takeoff.
The calculator applies individual allowances to beams, joists, columns, plates, decking and stairs. An overall waste allowance is then added to the combined preliminary steel quantity.
The displayed cost is a preliminary material-only estimate. Labor, fabrication, welding consumables, fasteners, coating, transport, erection and foundations are not automatically included.
What does the Steel Mezzanine Material Estimator calculate?
It estimates main beams, joists, columns, bracing, connection plates, decking, stairs, waste, total steel weight and preliminary material cost.
Can I estimate materials from floor area?
Yes. Enter the mezzanine floor length and width. The calculator establishes the floor area and uses the entered spacing and section weights to estimate the main materials.
How are columns estimated?
Columns are arranged using the entered target column spacing in both floor directions, producing a preliminary grid quantity.
How are joists estimated?
Joists are distributed according to the maximum joist spacing and their total length is multiplied by the entered joist section weight.
Does the calculator include decking?
Yes. Enter the decking weight per square metre or square foot and the calculator estimates the decking steel weight from the floor area.
Can stairs be included?
Yes. Select Yes under Include Stairs and enter the preliminary stair dimensions and weight.
Does this tool select the correct beam or joist size?
No. The section weights are entered by the user. Actual member sizes must be determined from structural design.
Is the result an exact bill of materials?
No. It is a preliminary estimating tool. Final quantities should be taken from approved structural and fabrication drawings.
