Why the seconds hand freezes or jumps — plus a quick diagnosis path. Educational troubleshooting only.
1. Push the crown fully in / screw it down.
2. For mechanical watches, wind to a normal full state if appropriate.
3. Watch the seconds hand for 30–60 seconds without touching the crown.
4. Note whether hour/minute hands are still advancing.
5. Do not force the hands or open the case.
A stuck or jumping seconds hand can come from simple crown position or from deeper movement faults. This tool sorts likely bands only.
Why is my seconds hand stuck?Common reasons include crown still pulled (hacking), no power, or a movement fault.
Why does the seconds hand jump?Quartz watches normally step once per second. On mechanical watches, jumping/sticking is more concerning.
Seconds hand stops when I set the time — broken? Not necessarily. Many mechanical watches hack and stop the seconds hand while the crown is pulled.
When do I need service? If the hand stays frozen with the crown in, or sticks/jumps repeatedly despite power and correct crown position.
