Fuel Planning

Multi-Stop Fuel Stop Optimizer for Road Trips

A multi-stop fuel planner estimates the usable range above a chosen reserve and checks added refueling points in route order. It shows where the current planning range becomes insufficient without claiming that a real fuel station is open, stocked or accessible.

How does the fuel-stop optimizer work?

The planner begins with fuel currently available above the reserve, converts it into a route distance using the entered efficiency, then checks each fuel stop in order. A stop is flagged when the next route segment is longer than the remaining modeled range.

Why is the reserve percentage important?

Theoretical empty-tank range is not the same as practical trip planning range. Keeping a reserve gives room for unexpected delays, route changes and uncertain consumption. The correct reserve is route-specific and should be chosen deliberately.

Does the tool verify real station availability?

No. Names and distances are planning inputs. A separate current data source is required to verify opening hours, operational status, accessibility and fuel availability.

Fuel Stop FAQs

How does a multi-stop fuel planner decide when to refuel?

The planner estimates usable range from tank capacity, current fuel level, efficiency and the chosen reserve. It then walks through entered refueling opportunities and identifies when the remaining route distance would exceed the available planning range.

Why keep a fuel reserve?

A reserve prevents the plan from treating theoretical empty-tank range as usable trip distance. A route can involve detours, traffic, weather or uncertain station availability, so the appropriate reserve is route-specific and should be chosen conservatively.

Does the tool know whether a real fuel station is open?

No. Station names or locations entered by the user are treated as planning points. The tool does not claim that a station is available, operational, safely accessible or stocked unless a separate current data source verifies those facts.
