How the annual budget works

The planner converts monthly expenses into annual amounts and adds annual expenses directly. It is intentionally a budgeting tool rather than a total cost-of-ownership valuation system.

Annual budget = 12 × monthly costs + annual fixed costs.

Why a monthly budget alone can be misleading

Insurance, taxes, maintenance and major repairs may arrive as large periodic bills. Converting all of them into an annual reserve makes those costs easier to plan for even when they are not paid every month.

Build a reserve for irregular expenses

A repair reserve is an assumption, not a guarantee. Some years can be cheap while others can contain several expensive jobs. Keeping the reserve separate from fuel or loan payments makes the uncertainty easier to see.

Use the result before setting a purchase budget

The annual figure can be combined with your household budget to determine whether a particular vehicle fits comfortably. The planner does not determine affordability by itself.

FAQs

Does the loan payment include interest?

Use the actual monthly payment you expect to pay. Principal and interest are embedded in that payment.

Should I include depreciation?

Not in this cash-budget view. Depreciation is an economic cost rather than a recurring cash bill. A separate ownership-cost model can account for it through vehicle value loss.

Can annual and monthly inputs be mixed?

Yes. The form clearly identifies each input's period and converts monthly categories into annual totals.
