How much signature cocktail do I need for a wedding?
Start with the guest group likely to drink, model a modest event-level serving rate, then apply the share you expect to choose the signature drink. This gives a purchasing estimate without assuming that every guest wants the cocktail.
How the calculator works
The model uses 0.75 alcoholic servings per drinking guest per event hour. The signature cocktail gets the percentage you enter, and the backup allowance is applied after that. The result is divided by your actual recipe yield and rounded up to a whole batch.
Methodology
| Step | Formula |
|---|---|
| Base alcoholic servings | Guests × drinking % × hours × 0.75 |
| Signature servings | Base servings × signature share % |
| Backup | Signature servings × (1 + backup %) |
| Batches | Round up total servings ÷ batch yield |
Examples
50 guests
With 70% drinking guests, 5 hours, and a 40% signature share, the model gives about 42 signature servings before backup.
100 guests
The same assumptions give about 84 signature servings before backup.
200 guests
The same assumptions give about 168 signature servings before backup.
Practical batching
Use the actual recipe yield, not the size of the mixing container. Ask the bartender how many servings can be prepared at once, how the drink should be chilled, and whether ingredients such as fruit or dairy need special handling.
Common mistakes
- Assuming every alcohol-consuming guest will choose the signature drink.
- Ignoring the actual batch yield.
- Adding a large buffer without checking ingredient shelf life.
- Using the calculator as a recommendation to increase alcohol consumption.
