Antique Auction Consignor Net Proceeds Calculator

Different auction houses may advertise strong sale results but charge different seller fees. This comparison tool lays out the estimated payout house by house using the fee schedule and hammer price you enter, so the highest expected hammer does not automatically look like the best net outcome.

Calculator

Enter your figures below. Results update from the assumptions you supply; check your agreement, fee schedule, and local requirements before making a decision.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter one auction-house estimate per line using the fields shown. Use the estimate you realistically expect for that house.
  2. Enter seller commission percentage, reserve-related fee, listing charge, insurance, photography, tax estimate, and other expenses.
  3. Compare the estimated net proceeds and total deductions. Verify whether each expense is fixed, conditional, refundable, or charged only if the lot sells.

Calculation method

Seller commission = projected hammer price × seller commission rate. Estimated tax = projected hammer × entered tax rate. Net proceeds = hammer − commission − reserve fee − listing − insurance − photography − estimated tax − other expenses.

Worked example

House A might estimate a 1,200 hammer with 20% seller commission and 80 in other charges, producing an estimated net of 880 before any tax estimate. A lower-commission house with a lower hammer price may or may not pay more after all costs.

Important assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

Why compare net instead of commission alone?

A low commission can be outweighed by a lower estimated hammer price, large fixed charges, or a different insurance and listing schedule.

Should I include reserve fees?

Enter the fee if the house charges it under the scenario being modeled, and check the written contract for when it applies.

Is the tax estimate professional tax advice?

No. It is an arithmetic estimate from a user-entered rate; tax treatment should be confirmed with a qualified adviser or authority.

Can I compare different projected hammer prices?

Yes. Each line has its own projected hammer price and fee schedule, making the comparison realistic for different estimates.

Does this estimate guarantee a sale?

No. Auction results, reserves, bidding activity, and fees may differ from the planning assumptions.
